Lack of customization
-
It appears like I’m missing features, I’ve seen customized wordpress blogs and I see no way how on how I could reproduce their style.
Things I’d like to do:
Increase displayed text before “Continue reading”, only got three rows per post.
Lower margins to reduce wasted space, like this: https://i.imgur.com/bDCuz1h.png
Change background
https://wordpress.com/support/themes/custom-backgrounds/
“To get started, go to My Site → Design → Customize → Colors & Backgrounds.”
I don’t have it, as well as other features shown in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypFF4ONBfSQ, only:
Site Identity
Menus
Widgets
Homepage Settings
AMP
Additional CSSThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Another thing is that I don’t see a way to customize the header, and there’s “Create your website at WordPress.com Get started” (in a private tab), which doesn’t appear on other blogs.
-
It seems that the Hever theme doesn’t offer those options you require. I’d try a different theme. And note that free sites show ads such as “create your website” and further ads between posts for visitors. You’d need a paid plan to avoid ads completely.

I tried https://wordpress.com/theme/independent-publisher-2/ and I got the rest of the features like Colors & Backgrounds but I still only got 3 rows per post while https://i0.wp.com/theme.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/voila_capture-2017-03-29_11-54-14_am.png shows whole paragraphs and I still don’t see how to adjust margins.
-
By the way, there’s in Content Options:
Blog Display
Choose between a full post or an excerpt for the blog and archive pages.
Full post
Post excerpt
I already had full post selected, switching between the two does nothing. -
In https://contramanipularii.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php likewise I have selected:
For each post in a feed, include
Full text -
I’ve seen a solution to display more by writing in Excerpt – Write an excerpt (optional)
Problem is the Continue Reading button disappears. A visitor could click on the title but without the button they would think that’s all there is.Another problem: text in the main page is light grey as intended but in the posts it’s black, is there no way to change the default color, just selecting it for each paragraph?

Hi there,
Seems like you have a lot of questions :)
Is there a way to restore theme to default? I just want something simple.
You can activate any theme from the library, if you’re looking for something simple, you can check these:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/minimal/
Each theme has its own instructions if you would like to get the demo look.
I got the rest of the features like Colors & Backgrounds but I still only got 3 rows per post while https://i0.wp.com/theme.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/voila_capture-2017-03-29_11-54-14_am.png shows whole paragraphs and I still don’t see how to adjust margins.
To be able to display full posts on your homepage, you will want to set your front page to display your recent posts. You can change that from My Site>Design>Customize>Homepage Settings.
You won’t be able to adjust margins – you can add widgets to your sidebar, though.
text in the main page is light grey as intended but in the posts it’s black, is there no way to change the default color, just selecting it for each paragraph?
On the free plan, you can change the palettes in Colors&Backgrounds. If you would like to do more customization with CSS, you would need to upgrade to plan Business.
Since you’re just starting out, have a look at our daily webinars – you can register for free from the button on the top right.
