Landing page?
-
Hi. I created a page menu on canva for a landing page. I can’t seem to figure out how to import it as a landing page. It keeps coming up as a link to click on to get to the information. I would like it to show up as the first and only thing people see at this time.
Can you help me please?
Thanks,
laurenThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, @laurenkarpinski,
Is this for the site:
The blog I need help with is abstractlifesite.wordpress.com.
And are you attempting to upload an image, and then have it link to multiple sites, that is what I think I’m seeing at the above site.
I think you want to look into using some widgets, they’ll display on your page very nicely.
Try this one: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/social-media-icons-widget/
And this one (Instagram): https://en.support.wordpress.com/instagram/instagram-widget/
For a search on all widgets in the support docs: https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=widgetsLet me know if you need help in a specific area or if I misunderstood your needs. Best Regards.

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your response. Yes, that’s the correct website I need help with. I can add widgets, hadn’t thought of that because what I was trying to do was…
I created a webpage on Canva and canva gives you a sharing option where you can copy and paste the html code into wordpress, though it does say wordpress.org not .com, and by doing that the links that I made active in my canva page would transfer onto the wordpress page.
This didn’t happen though. when I copied and pasted the html code into wordpress it would just give me a link with the title of my saved canva page. So going to my wordpress page you would see a link and when you press the link you would then see the canva made webpage wtih all the active links i had on it. I had wnated that canva page to be my landing page.
Did that make sense?Thanks,
Lauren

Yes, this makes sense, and that is the problem. The WordPress.org and WordPress.com makes a huge difference, actually.
That code, from what I can see on Canva’s share embed code page, contains JavaScript which is not an option to use on WordPress.com.
WordPress.com does not allow JavaScript. except for on the Business Plan, as explained here (https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#business-plan) . There are code restrictions on WordPress.com sites that are not on the business plan.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascriptIn case you are interested in the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org: Here is information on WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Now, to get your site set up well, Canva would be a great tool to use for images for sure, but you’ll want to assume that you are only bringing over the image, nothing else.
The theme you are currently using is Twenty Sixteen. There is a support document with information for setting up the site: https://wordpress.com/theme/twentysixteen
Here are the QuickSpecs for the theme:
Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)The main column width is up to 840.
The sidebar column width is up to 300.
The recommended Featured Image size is 1200 wide.
The recommended Custom Header image size is 1200 wide and 280px height. You will definitely want to check out the widgets (see information above).
You may want to take a look at other themes, too, with featured sections:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/featured that may have more of the “landing page” look that you are going for.Let me know if you need additional assistance. I know there is a lot in this post. :) Best Regards.

@laurenkarpinski just adding to what @christinemaze mentioned above about your theme, WordPressdotcom Support has published a guide for creating landing page. :)
Let us know if you need more help with anything.
