Landing Page is not a category page (home, contact, blog…)

  • Unknown's avatar

When I access my site I go to a page that is not what I want for a home page. When I access the pages, my three options (I deleted about) are home, contact, and blog. These three pages are there, but they do not include the page I want for blog, which is the one I land on. My theme is Penscratch.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

thanks for letting me view your site :)

so from what you are saying:

you have a navigational menu containing “home, contact and blog”

you want the main page to be the “home option”

and it’s not loading the right page you want it to?

although, from what i can see right now the theme isn’t set to penscratch but twenty sixteen.

your problem is probably to do with setting up a static page. the default set-up for most of the themes is to infinitely scroll your latest posts, and when you haven’t made any posts yet it can cause an error as it has nothing to load.

when you choose the static option it asks for you to pick a page that you want it to load. At this point, I would take the specially made “Home Page” that contains your message, and select this as your default.

this will set the page to be your home page, ignoring whatever “/-stub-” it had been assigned. There is no need to edit the menu as wordpress autocorrects for the right page once you save and publish the changes.

I would assume this is what you were wanting? : https://templatethemeblog.wordpress.com/

Thanks for responding. I got so frustrated that I attempted to change themes, delete all content, and start fresh. Only problem, I have the same dilemma. I cannot select the page as a home page since when I select pages I’m told I have none. So I am clearing it all and starting anew. If the problem continues I guess I’ll have to change the name of the site and really start anew.

maybe you are making posts instead of pages?

there are split options between making pages and making posts.

the posts show up in the wordpress reader for news feeds, while the pages do not, but only the pages are locked into the site. you may have been trying to set a post as the homepage and thus it won’t show up in the list as only pages can be linked to the menu and set as a default homepage.

Just choose the add new page option and write out your basic content, once it is saved and published

    Set the Homepage

this link should explain it better than me and help with your issue.

Thank you. I believe this is the problem. I’ve been trying to delete and make it a page, then considered that perhaps a scrolling blog is workable. The good news is I found a local WordPress meet up that I am attending tomorrow! I’m determined.

    perfect :)

just mark this as resolved once you decide which way you are going, if no other issues crop up :)
