landing page with option to go to two different sets of content – stay theme
-
hello –
i set up a photography website with stay theme. i have recently decided to put my sculpture online as well. i’d like to create a landing page with two options – click to go the photography pages or click to go to the sculpture pages. i’d like all pages to be within emilychaffee.com and for photography and sculpture to each have their own slider. is this possible and if so, could someone tell me how to do this?
thank you

Hi Emily, You can add text and such to the body of the home page in stay, so you put two images in the body of the home page template and link them to the photography and sculpture pages. These would appear between the page slider at the top and the footer and/or footer widget area.
Although you can assign the “Home” template to more than one page, there isn’t a way to select the pages shown in the slider by page, so all of the pages with the “Home” template would show the same images.
You can insert your own gallery or slideshow in the content area of the photography and sculpture pages though.

thanks so much for your response. are you saying that i could add text to the home page that i already have? or that this landing page would have to have a slider of some sort?
i’d really like to have a simple page with nothing other than the header and background that are currently on the home page and two click-able photos with text beneath them – that take you to the two home pages.
in css, under home slider you can choose the images you want in the slider. but i guess you are saying that whatever images you choose in that css area would show up on both pages. ok, so if that’s the case gallery/slideshow could work for the sculpture page.
so – to keep the page color and header exactly the same and just have two squares in the center with a photo and word for each that link to the 2 home pages – how do i set that up?
oh, and i keep unclicking “likes and shares” in screen options in each of the main pages and the “likes” section is still showing up at the bottom. is there something i’m missing?
thank you!!

Any page that you set to the “home” page template will have the same set of images in the slider set in the customizer. If a page is set with one of the other standard templates (default or full width) then the home page slider will not appear on those pages.
You can have your sculpture and photography pages set with “full width” page templates and then the home page slider will not appear on those pages. You can set a featured image for the sculpture and photographic pages and use an appropriate image and then it would look similar to the About page on the demo site without the sidebars, of course.
To put in the two images on the home page, open that page in the editor, insert the first image, left aligned, select “medium” for the size and in the pulldown and in the “link to” pulldown select Custom URL and enter the URL of the appropriate page on your site. Next, switch to the “text” tab, put your cursor at the end of the code shown and click the media button to insert the second image. Do the same as above, but align it “right”.
This will likely require a bit more finessing to get it to look the way you want it, but it will be a start.
The screen options only affect the editor page, not the front page of the site. Activate the sharing in screen options and then scroll down below the text area in the editor page and find the sharing module and you can deselect to show sharing and then save.
