landing/lead page

    Hi
I’d like to create a landing page for my blog. Is it possible for me to do that with wordpress.com? Or any of the .coms?

    Cheers

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If you’d like, you can create a static front page for your blog — that way, anyone who visits the blog at luccav.com will land on that page first. (That way, you can set it up so your blog posts are on a separate page on the site instead of on the front page.)

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :) If that’s not the kind of landing page you’re trying to set up, please let me know how you’d like it to look instead and I’ll see what we can do!

    Hi Rachel

Thank you for your response. It’s not exactly what I want but due to budget restraints it will do in the meantime.

I have tried the static page but ran into a few problems. When the static page is activated, how do I get to see the blog entries?

I need baby steps to work it out! ;D
    cheers

    Hi Luciana,

When you set up a static front page, you can set up a separate blog page at the same time. That way you can click to the blog page to read your blog posts. Here are the steps to set those pages up:

    1. Click Pages → Add New in your WP Admin Dashboard to create a new page.
    2. Title this page “Home” (you can, of course, name it whatever you like).
    3. Type the content you want displayed on the front page of your blog and publish it. (Make sure the Page’s Visibility is not set as Private, otherwise it can’t be selected as a static front page.)
    4. Create another new page.
    5. Title this page “Posts” (Or “Blog” if you want it to be at luccav.com/blog)
    6. You don’t need to type content, because it won’t be displayed. Publish the page.
    7. Click Settings→Reading on the left menu in your WP Admin Dashboard.
    8. Next to “Front page displays” in those settings, select “A static page.”
    9. Next to “Front page:” choose your “Home” page, and next to “Posts page:” choose your “Posts” or “Blog” page.
    10. Click the Save Changes button to save those settings.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

    Hi Rachel

I’ve done the two pages and it looks great!
A question: Is it possible to have the landing page without the image at the top and no sidebar?

    Thank you again.
    Cheers
    Luciana

    Hi Luciana,

With the Hemingway Rewritten theme you’re using, there are a couple ways you can customize the header image at the top and the sidebar:

The theme doesn’t have a built-in way to remove the header image completely, but you can add a Featured Image to your landing page. That featured image will replace the header image at the top of the page, so you can customize it that way.

The sidebar will automatically disappear if you don’t have any Widgets in the sidebar on that page. You can remove widgets just from that landing page by adjusting the widget visibility for each widget there.

To change the widget visibility, you can go to Appearance > Widgets in your WP Admin dashboard. You can click on each widget to open its settings, and click the Visibility button (next to the Save button at the bottom of the widget settings) to change the visibility. For example, you can set up the rule “Hide if: Page is Yours FREE Today” to hide a widget on your landing page.

If you’d like to further customize your site’s theme (for example to remove the header image completely) you can do that with the Custom Design features that are part of the WordPress.com Premium plan.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
