lang attribute removed from span element
-
I write in several languages, and like to mark up the posts properly with lang attributes. For example, <p lang=”zh-Hans”>…</p> for simplified Chinese. Setting a lang attribute works for both p and div, but seems to be filtered away for span elements. Why is this, and who should I turn to for a fix?

Hello,
I have the same question. I see here the list of allowed tags and lang isn’t included. Is that the reason?
For accessibility, W3C recommands the use of lang. It’ be nice if we could use the lang element.

Ah thanks for the info tdewvirus. I’m all forXHTML but I’m realising that I’m lagging behind! oops
All I have to do is to learn how to show foreign words in XHTML.

Hello again,
@ mtdewvirus,
I’ve just checked — it seems xml:lang + lang are allright in a span element. I’ve just tried and WP removes xml:lang but keeps lang inside the sapn element — I won’t write the all thing because I don’t think posts here can cope with full HTML snippets.
My article doesn’t validate, which is a new thing, but that’s WP’s reponsibility, not mine; example:
ex_go({‘crypt’:’D6|,Y1mqtiRa=V&|QbTtZOw5UlZb%IV%RLtZZq4BjS%&mC4OSonuZ-x3DaKDf3R%
