Lapsed hosting means I've lost my site content – how can I retrieve it?

    I accidentally let my hosting lapse and I can no longer log in to wp-admin to get to the back end of two sites. My host tells me the content is no longer on their server.
    Can someone explain to me how I can get into the back end to retrieve my content?

    The sites were:

    smallstories.net.au (+ other address attached was smallstories.com.au)

    and

    splaydandcrayon.com

    Both the sites that you are referring to are not hosted on WordPress.com.

    Here in this forum, we provide support for WordPress.com Users as we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere.

    To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities:

    Hi Manda,

    Please contact your old hosting provider directly for help with this, as they’re the only people who might still have a backup of your content. If your hosting provider has already deleted all backups of your site from their servers, and you didn’t keep your own backups, that content is now gone.

    WordPress.org is the site where the open source WordPress software is made, but it’s not a hosting provider, and none of your site’s content was ever on the WordPress.org servers. So the community there has no more ability to help you recover your content than we have over here.

    splaydandcrayon.com appears to be pointed to Tumblr.com, so you can try contacting Tumblr support at https://tumblr.com/support regarding that site.
