lapsed site renewal

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to renew my website which expired 4/22. When I click the renew button in my email, it only offers me options to upgrade. Is it possible to continue paying the $26 yearly rate? Also is there a way to make this happen automatically next year?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    What is the domain URL?

    Allowing a domain to expire
When you allow your domain expire, it then goes through a process that can take several months to complete described at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/.

If you are in the grace period you will not have to agree to pay a redemption fee set by the domain name registrar that wordpress.COM staff cannot waive.

Otherwise, if you want Staff to try to recover the domain for you then you will have to agree to pay the redemption fee.

This thread is tagged this thread in the sidebar with modlook for Staff attention.

If you’re logged into the account that is associated with your expired domain, they will look up its status and get in touch with details.

If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into the associated account

  • Hey there,

I checked with our registrar and newmoonchanting.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

    Darnelldibbles,
We put this site on auto-renew last year, so it should not have expired. How can I put in a complaint about this to waive the $80 fee and have the site renewed?
    Thanks!

You will be charged $26.00 for this renewal in 60 days, on March 23, 2015.

You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.

If you don’t want to renew, you can disable automatic renewal under Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard.

For a limited time, you can upgrade to WordPress.com Premium for only $79.00. This offer is valid until March 07, 2015.

    Thanks for flying with WordPress.com

  • I’ll look into this and see what happened. We’ll have no issue waiving the $80 fee if we find it was a mistake on our end. I’ll keep you updated.

    Thanks!

Hi, it’s been 5 days so I am checking in – we really want our site to be back up ASAP and are hoping someone can make that happen on your end. The previous auto-renew correspondence was with Julie Lipson.
    Thanks!
    Lee

  • I checked the account history and there were two cards on file for Julie. One was for the initial set up back in April of 2014. That card eventually expired and was replaced with another card current on file with exp. of 3/18. That card was processed several times but it looks like there were insufficient funds on the card because we received a failure notice each time. An email is sent out to the account on file whenever this happens, so the account owner should’ve received notification of the issue. On June 3rd, we no longer attempted to process the renew after several attempts on our end.

I can still reach out to our registry partners to retrieve the domain, but the $80 fee will apply in this instance. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
