Large portions of a scheduled post lost?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yesterday, I word for about half a day on this post:

Delphi: mapping of COM/Windows exceptions to Delphi Exceptions and run-time errors

It previewed great right after I scheduled it.

Today I wanted to add a little bit of text, and to my great surprise only the very first edit was visible.

No history or whatsoever is visible (I saved a lot of drafts yesterday).

    How could this happen?

Is there any way to get it restored?

That’s strange. I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

    Hi there,

If you spend that long on the content, I agree that it’s strange that the system does not show a series of versions of this post.

Did you create the content, schedule it, and then add to the post? If so, did you hit the update button? Or were you writing the post as a regular post, saving the drafts, and then schedule it after that?

I just tested the post, and it shows that previewing the post automatically added an autosave, so everything seems to be working now.

This is pretty unusual, so I can check with our team to see if they can restore it, but assuming they can, anything you created, or that was posted to your site (like comments) after that restore point will be lost. Please let me know if you wish me to look into that option or if you’d rather just leave things as they are.

If the team can find out the latest markup text from 20130521 (i.e. before the text got trashed) and mail it to me (without restoring the blog and loosing comments), that would be great.

Let me know if that is possible.

This is how I usually edit the posts:

    – start with a topic caption
    – put in some content
    – adjust the categories
    – preview
    – add more content
    – preview
    – …
    – schedule
    – close the edit tab in the browser (and make sure I don’t get a pop asking me if I’m sure to leave)

This has worked for me very well, as WordPress does auto-save on preview and time based auto-save.

    It failed this time however.

Please let me know if I should use a different workflow.

We can restore your blog at that point, but we cannot recover an individual post.

From here on out, I would strongly recommend you save drafts and not rely entirely on the Autosave feature. While Autosave should be working (and I haven’t seen other instances where it’s failed like this), I think it’s still a good thing to control when your posts are saved.

OK. Thanks. Too bad you cannot restore it to a temporary location for data retrieval.
I will try to restore the stuff myself.
