    I am planning on building a large site with at least one thousand members. I want each member to be able to content manage their own site. How do i best build this site..Can i use a theme?

    Also for more clarity please note that the site linked to your username is not a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM so we cannot help you with it at all. WordPress.COM blogs and wordpress.ORG installs operate on different code. The correct support forum to get support for that blog is here > http://wordpress.ORG/support

    You could use the multi-site feature with the wordpress.ORG software (which is basically what wordpress.COM runs on), but expect to spend 40-50 hours a week minimum babysitting those 1000 members, especially for the first 3 months. I support a similar private thing with 500 users and spend at least 20 hours a week on average (and that is a year into it) just trying to keep them from mucking up their little digital cubicles. The 1-day record for email questions on that private 500 user site was just under 300 (200 unique users).

    If the 1000 only average only 30 hits a day, that is over 900,000 hits per month, and that is some serious bandwidth and will require at the very least a VPS hosting package and most likely the host will require you to have your own dedicated server. Figure somewhere between $50 and $200 per month in hosting fees alone.

    I hope you have really deep pockets and a good source of income. For this project, you will need it.
