Large spaces between title words
-
This happens every once in a while. When I add a new post the words in my title have about 2/3 spaces after them. I don’t know how I’ve fixed the other times it happened, so I don’t know how to fix it now. Please check out my latest post and tell me what I’m doing wrong and/or how to fix it. Thanks in advance
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

for your theme, the style.css shows:
.post h2{
margin: 0 0 0px;
text-align: justify;
margin:0px;
font-size:1.4em;
}
so then it is pure chance if the words get separated more or less depending on their length. -

You might try adding a no-break space code (or several) so that the lines are too short to justify and they will then force a line break in the title. This works in my test blog, white as milk theme, firefox browser for your latest post:

The one thing to remember with that solution is that if someone has their browser zoomed in (make text larger) then it will end up looking even worse than it does now. That is also the case with different browsers since they will all render the title slightly differently.

/bow to tsp.Actually in Firefox my suggestion seems to hold true even when zooming in. I didn’t try it in different browsers, so it might not work so well? Also I only have Macs. So it may well be that things fall apart…
just a note/question to you:
I come to this blog world from an understanding of a mechanical printing medium. Appearance was under control of the artist or creator.I even remember when leading was made of lead. And well, I remember leading even in terms of digital leading for print media.
But this blog stuff is different, with various browsers and various renderings: this internet stuff, we none of us really do not have control of how things are rendered.

I too have considerable experience in print media and still have wax under my fingernails from doing paste up the old fashion way, so I know what you mean. CSS is evolving and with each new revision to the standards, there are more and more controls put into the hands of web designers, but that additional capability can create problems. It also takes time to educate your self on all those controls and how to use them properly.
When computer started to be used for layout, it meant that anyone with a computer and the money to buy a couple programs could call themselves a graphic designer. The problem was that very few of those people had any experience with design or layout and you can evidence of that wherever you go. They figured out how to use the program, but had no foundation in good design.
As you have probably seen in your travels on the internet and in printed media, having all those controls does not guarantee that they will be used properly to produce a good design that presents the information properly. Too often I think people use some of the controls just because they can, or they use the wrong control and although they get the result they desired, it may have been better to adjust something else instead – or perhaps use a combination of two with less drastic adjustments on both.

Arrgh. (is that how to spell it?) the wax under my nails! Of course.
The suggestion I made here does work in many/some instances. And (ok I’ve been too lazy/busy to learn about css) this medium is even more variable than graphics, painting, drawing, writing in how it is interpreted. Not only intellectually/academically, but also technically.
So in regard to: “or they use the wrong control and although they get the result they desired, it may have been better to adjust something else instead”
Perhaps my solutions are (often) inadequate? Or not the best advice?Sorry, but best regards,

@tess, I was not aiming the control thing at you and your solution does work, it’s just that I’m not sure how IE will respond to it since I haven’t fired up my PC laptop. IE is an alien life-form and I’ve seen instances in the past where justified text was completely b0rked in IE, but not in other browsers. IE is the anti-browser.

Yes dear tsp,
I know that. Well not the IE things, but I was thinking generally about how the whole internet formating issue works.

Yes, the internet is fickle and most of that fickle comes from the different way that different browsers render things. It is what we have though and it gets better year after year. Perhaps someday all browsers will render things equally.

Thanks for the replies. I tried adding the codes, that worked, but the title showed up funny in my sidebar. I guess I just have to keep my titles short. I deleted one word and now it’s fine. And no I don’t have the upgrade.
Thanks
