late fee?
-
Hello!
I have a blog with WordPress — coreycor.wordpress.com — that I hadn’t realized expired. I went in to renew it for the $26 that I’d initially paid to drop the “wordpress” portion of the site, but saw that there was an $80 late fee?
Can you explain this?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
It looks like the domain expired on 2/27/15 (40 days ago). Several days after the expiration date, the late fee is added to the cost of the renewal by the registrar. You can read a bit more about that here:
Since the late fee is added by the registrar, I’m afraid we cannot waive the charge. If you would like, you can renew the domain here:
https://coreycor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades
The total will be $106 ($80 + the $26 for normal registration). If you choose not to renew the domain, it may be sold at auction by the registrar to another owner. However, if you choose to go that route, please let me know. Happy to discuss the options with you!

Got it. Thanks for the information, Jeremy. I wasn’t aware that there would be an $80 charge. Huge jump from the initial $26…almost quadruple the price. :-/
I’ll just risk it being sold at auction by the registrar.
Thanks again,
Corey

No problem Corey! I went ahead and changed the primary domain on your account here:
https://coreycor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
That way, you can still access your site at coreycor.wordpress.com. The domain should automatically expire and get removed from your account. If no one else purchases the domain at auction, it should be available again for regular purchase in 45 days or so (end of May).
