  An 80 dollar late fee? Seriously?

  Why do I even have a late fee, why not just de-register and that’s it?

  Hi there,

  When domains expire, there’s a small window when they can be renewed for the regular fee, and then they move into what is known as the “redemption period” when the domain registrar imposes an additional fee as the domain goes up for auction and is either sold to another party or released. In our case, that fee is $80, and is beyond our control.

  You are welcome to wait out the process and see if your domain will be available to register again at the normal price. We cannot guarantee the domain will become available, however, so if it’s important to you we recommend renewing it now even with the additional fee.
