late fee help

  help. I was in between homes during a long distance move and my site expired. how can i contact wordpress to BEG for removal of the $80 late fee ? Moving expenses have been enough without this =(

  Hi Macie,

  Sorry to hear that your domain expired at a hard time for you. When a domain expires it is given a 14 day grace period where it can be renewed at the normal price. After this period our registrar adds an $80 late renewal fee to the renewal. This is not something we can waive.

  To prevent this fee from being charged we send several renewal emails to the account and show an overlay on the site letting the users know their domain is expiring.

  If you don’t wish to pay the renewal fee you can wait for the domain to fully expire (a process that takes around 80 days). If the domain is not sold at auction or bought by another party it will go back to the pool of domains and can be registered again. Note, if you go this route we cannot guarantee the domain will be available to you again.

  Again, sorry for the inconvenience, however we can’t waive the fee.
