LATE FEE, UNREASONABLE

To Admin support team,
I bought the domain name and blog so that i could help myself recover from the effects of PTSD. The blog was essential in helping me cope and to be able to open up. The blog was expiring and i did not have the money to renew right away. I logged in today to try and renew and there is an 80 euro late fee. That’s four times its original price. Was just wondering is there any way the late fee can be lifted? I would love to be able to be able to keep my site and continue writing but find the cost very unreasonable, if i could e-mail someone directly or someone give me advice id greatly appreciate it.

The answer is no. WordPress.COM does not set the redemption fee and cannot waive it. The registrar who sold the domain name does and they can charge as much as they want. There is a whole industry based on snapping up expired domains and auctioning them off to domain name squatters who insist on setting a high price to buy them, back. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/01/30/omg-my-domain-name-expired/
That is why WordPress.COM provides auto-renew services for domain mapping upgrades and commences renewals one month before expiry.

Hi, I’ve just been charged £85 for a service that I did not want at all. They sent me an email which I have only just received after being ill. I have tried to contact wordpress but to no avail. This is scandalous business practice..Can anyone help please?

I just paid and renewed my domain two months ago and for some reason it’s saying I didn’t and it cancelled my domain and wants to $108 bucks? No fucking way.

It looks like you have two domains on your account: freedomjj.com and danofearth.com. The former (freedomjj.com) was renewed on 1/1/15. I’m not seeing a renewal purchase though for danofearth.com. Perhaps you’re referring to the payment you made for freedomjj.com?
The domain danofearth.com is currently 33 days past the expiration date. Domain expiration is a lengthy and complicated process that takes about 80 days.
During this time, your domain may be put up for auction or sold on back-order.

The good news is that you can still recover your domain, as it has not yet been deleted or purchased by someone else. A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular renewal price as you mentioned.
You can renew this domain and manage all your other upgrades under Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard. Here’s a direct link:
