LATE FEES!?

  • Unknown's avatar

The $80.00 late fee is outrageous. I thought I was on auto renew. It had renewed it before, I thought. I would be willing to renew for the original amount. Could someone please tell me how you justify the late fee? I was unable to check my email for several months and had no idea. Also, could you please tell me if I would be able to now register the domain name with another service. I am still able to access my url.

  • Hi Lesa,

The late fee is imposed on us by the domain provider, so we pass it along to you without anything additional. The full domain expiration cycle can be read about here: Domain Expiration.

In a couple weeks, the domain provider will put the domain up for auction. We can still try to get it back (with the late fee) if no one else has placed a bid on it.

Your everythingbutnothing.org did auto-renew a little over a month ago, though currently none of your domains are set to auto-renew at present.

As far as transferring the domain to a different service, the domain would need to be renewed before the domain can be transferred. The domain expiration process takes a number of a months, so you won’t be able to purchase the domain again until after that concludes and there is no guarantee the domain won’t be awarded at auction or that someone else won’t purchase the domain.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thank you for your help! Who is the domain provider? In the past, when a name has expired, it was simply available for someone else to register and use. I had no idea that this would happen if I were late in paying. I really did think all mine were set to auto renew. I really feel like my name is being held hostage with a ransom. How can they justify an $80 fee? Most importantly, I would like to know who they are. Perhaps I can speak with them directly about this and clear things up. I’m thankful I found this out now. I will now read the link you provided. Thanks so much. I’m just a little frustrated.

  • Hi Lesa,

All domains go through a similar process—there is some delay between the time it expires and when it is returned to the market. In our case, the late fee is added after about a couple of weeks.

I see that Deborah is also helping you privately, so I’ll let her finish up. We can walk you through things a bit more in private, so I think you’ll find that works for you. :-)
