Late renewal fee
-
Why am I having to pay a late renewal fee? I’ve been a member of wordpress for years. I invested the time into purchasing a domain as I felt the platform was perfect for my blog. The website means a great deal to me and having to pay nearly $100 to renew my domain is far out of my budget. I work within the fashion industry in London and it would be a great shame to have to forfeit all of my hard work I have poured into my blog over the years because of a hidden fee. Perhaps I was late on payment however I don’t understand why my fee is so ridiculously high. Is there any way of waving the fee as a gesture of good will? It would be a great shame to have to leave WordPress as a platform.
Hope to hear from you very soon and best wishes,
Joshua

That fee is NOT set by wordpress.com. If you fail to practice due diligence and allow mapping upgrade to expire then your are at fault not WordPress and not the domain name registrar. Once the domain mapping expires there is a brief grace period where you can still pay later. If you let that grace period slip by the registrar you purchased the domain name from owns the domain – and they can set whatever fee they want to redeem the domain.

You’d think the fashion industry in London would pay better than that. Think of it as a deductable expense.
