Latest post as front page

    Hello,

I want my latest post to be on my front page, automatically of course, but i don’t know how.
I can’t choose the option “latest blog posts” under “Front page displays” because then my front page shows as many blog posts as all my other blog pages.
How do I make my front page only show my latest one but my other blog pages still show 10?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can’t answer questions without a link to the blog, starting with http. It all depends on the blog.

    Thanks.

Choose the option “Latest blog posts”. That’s your only option. There is no way to make the main page display only one and all other pages display 10 posts.

You might prefer to use the Hemingway theme, which truncates older posts.

Ok, thanks. I might just end up changing my static front page to show my ,latest post manually every time instead…
I don’t really want to change the theme, I quite like this one:)

One thing to keep in mind with static front pages is that if you put your latest post on it manually, switching them out as you make new ones, wordpress does not ping (notify) the search engines about new pages or changes to pages, so the search engines will never know you put up that new post. Later when you remove that post (assuming you then turn it into an actual post, only then will wordpress ping the search engines.

The posts you put on the static front page will also not be available via RSS or blog subscriptions if you are using them. RSS and the blog subscriptions only show posts, not pages.

You’re saying that if I creat a new post, and post it, and then copy the text to my static front page it won’t work?
That’s how I meant to do it you see.

If that won’t work, any ideas on how I can get this done?

Why would you create duplicate content? It makes no sense to do so and may actually end up penalizing your blog http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359 This is not to mention what TSP explained to you above. What you plan to do will not result in pinging search engines so the information you post can be immediately indexed and is available to those using search engines.

They only purpose having a static front page serves is to appease the aesthetic preference of the blogger, as opposed to the convenience of the readers. Establishing a static landing page as the front page means each time readers come to read posts they must endure the annoyance and inconvenience of clicking through it every time they wish to read posts. There is no benefit at all to the readers, thus choosing to do the same gives rise to the question: Who are you blogging for?

I’m blogging for me. No one else.
But I took his advice and changed theme, I’m very happy with the way it looks now so problem solved:)
    Thanks for all your help!

I see that you are using the Hemingway theme now. It displays only two excerpts of your latest posts on the front page. Happy blogging :)
