Latest post does not appear in any designated category

This has happened twice– I created a new post, selected categories (e.g. writing and self-published), and published, but the post does not subsequently appear in the category. I can see it on my Dashboard, and find it via Google, so I know it exists. In self-published, I can scroll down and see the post I created two days ago, but not the one I created last night. I double-checked the categories and they appear to be right. I have not created any new pages or anything like that. Color me puzzled. Help.

  • Hey there –

I went to the few categories you mentioned and saw recent posts under them. Were you able to rectify the issue?

Have you read the support page on assigning posts to categories:

    Organize Posts with Categories

The issue is not fixed– my most recent post, from last night, is still not appearing in the designated categories. As I said, I can see my post from three days ago, but not last nights.

I’ve considered unpublishing and then re-publishing the latest post, but I’ve held off as I don’t know what effect that will have.

  • Hey –

Sorry that you are still having trouble.

I see the post We Have Crossed the Rhine dated October 1st under both writing and self-published. Is that post you are referring to? If not, what is the name of the post and what categories did you assign it to?

By the way, there’s absolutely no point using the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category, plus you may run into technical problems when you do this. For each one of these duplicates, you should decide if you prefer it as a category or a tag and delete its sibling.

    Darnell–

Hmm. Okay, maybe it’s me– We Have Crossed the Rhine is my latest post. When I search for writing or self-published the post does not appear. But, if you can see We Have Crossed the Rhine, then I will go from Defcon 1 to Defcon 3 on the assumption it is a problem on my end. I’ve just recently started using Google Chrome, so there may be something with it I need to check.

Anyway, thanks for being persistent in checking on this. I appreciate the help.

Justpi– thanks, I think I need to better understand the distinction between a tag and a category. Appreciate the help.
