Latest post is not at the top of the page

  Hello

  I have searched the support archives but can’t find an answer to the problem I have, which is a post that refused to unstick from my front page! I have ‘unstickied’ it (it’s about the International School Grounds Alliance), but still the most recent post (Mad March Teacher) won’t show at the top of the page.

  I don’t appear to have ‘general’ in my ‘settings’ area, which is what other forum helpers have suggested, so I can’t alter timezones (though I’m pretty sure I haven’t touched those anyway, so can’t see how that might be the problem).

  Anyway, I’d be most grateful if anybody could tell me how to make the most recent post always be the one at the top of the homepage. Thanks!

  The posts show as expected. The “International School Grounds Alliance” post is at the top because it’s the latest non-sticky post. “Mad March Teacher” won’t show at the top of the main column because it shows in the slider: a post isn’t supposed to show in both places.

  In other words, if you want the most recent post at the top, don’t turn it into a featured (=sticky) post.

  Thanks, I’ll try that. I think it may be time to change my theme as this one hasn’t done quite what I wanted it to – I like the slider but also want the latest post to be the first one readers see.

  Yep, that worked! Thanks. I’ll make this post sticky once I’ve a new post to submit… I don’t suppose you know of a theme that has a sticky post slider and will show the latest post as the first one???
  (Just getting greedy now!)

  The slider is used to showcase some posts – it can be used for the most recent ones, or it can be used for some important previous posts.
  All themes with a slider work the same: a post that shows in the slider won’t show in the main column. So, as I said, if you want your latest post at the top of the main column, you don’t put it in the slider.

  One difference is that the slider in some themes is more prominent than the main column (unlike iTheme2); so such themes might be better suited to showcasing your latest posts in the slider.
