Latest post not displaying on front page

Hey fellow WordPress fans,
Recently I’ve been working on a website for the community music/arts magazine that i’m writing for, using wordpress.
For some reason with the theme I’m using the latest posts don’t seem to be displaying on the front page and instead there seems to just be random posts displaying for some arbitrary reason. Is there any way to change this? If you click on the ‘latest’ tab in the sidebar you will see the newest posts.
