Latest post not showing up on homepage
-
To whom it may concern,
Hi, I just signed up for WordPress and published my first post, but it wasn’t showing up on my blog’s homepage.
I tried deleting the original and rewriting one from Dashboard, but the result remained the same. I’ve browsed the WordPress Tutorials, Support FAQs, the WordPress Forum, tried clearing my cache, logged out and see how it looked from an outsider, then logged back in again but nothing worked. I didn’t add any plugins.
Is there a glitch or a bug in the theme (twenty fourteen) or something? Is there any way to fix it? I was getting all excited to starting blogging again and I don’t want my first post to be a failure right away. Please advice.
Look forward to your reply.
Thanks,
ChristyThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there, Christy!
Because you’ve tagged this post “featured,” it is appearing at the top of your site with just a featured image and headline. No text will appear in this area of your site.
If you want this post to appear as a “normal” post, you need to remove the “featured” tag from it. Simply open the post in your editor by clicking below:
https://wordpress.com/post/86091081/50/?optinThen, find the “featured” tag in the list and delete it. Make sure to click Update to save your change.
When you have more posts, you can make some posts featured in order to appear in the “position of honor,” so to speak. :)

Hi Robyn, thanks for the clarification. I have another question. The two posts published are under the “Life Stories” category, but the category “tag” itself isn’t displaying above my posts’ titles. It did yesterday, just like the ones in the theme’s live demo. How do I display the category of the post above its title again?
-
Hey Christy!
Glad I could help with that!
Could you do me a favor and add one more Category, and assign a post to it? Once we’ve got more than one Category that contains content, we should be good to go.
Please be in touch and let me know how that works for you.
Thanks so much :)

Hi Robyn,
Yes it worked! Thank you! By the way, is there a way to set the blogpost’s page and the category page to be in full width instead of the default template width?
-
Hey Christy,
I am wondering if this is something you fixed on your own? When I look at your blog post page, I am seeing 3-columns: a left column, a main column, and a right column. Is this what you wanted to achieve? If not, just explain in a bit more detail and I can help with this.
If you can give me an example on the theme’s demo site, that link would be terrific!

Hi Robyn,
Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for the confusion. I’d like to make this page: https://strawberryandme.wordpress.com/category/menu-decouverte/
and any page from the drop down menu, and any blogpost’s page to look like this:
https://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/default-page-templates/full-width-page-template/
Is there any way to accomplish that? -
Hey Christy,
Thank you for the explanation of what you’re hoping to do.
There isn’t a universal setting to make those pages full-width, however you can opt to hide each widget on your category pages and posts.
Here are the instructions about adjusting your widget visibility:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/Your settings for each widget should look like this:
https://cloudup.com/cjIdGCZYvPVGive that a try! Let me know how it looks when you’re done. Thanks!

Hi Robyn,
I spent a few days playing around with the widget visibility and categories and pages and such. I read somewhere that it was possible to display posts with certain tags on an assigned page using a shortcode. Do you know if there’s a maximum number of posts the page can display with that shortcode?
-
Christy,
I’ve never seen a limit on that shortcode. I’ve managed to display hundreds at the same time. It does get a little ugly if you show so many, but it’s possible!
Sounds like you might already have this document, but here’s info about embedding that shortcode:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/Give it a try…let me know how it goes! If you need a hand, I can help :)
-
Hi Robyn,
Thanks for the link :) I was reading on the shortcode post_type. Is it possible to use it to display posts of a specific format, such as images, on an assigned page?
-
Hey Christy!
The shortcode wouldn’t work with that parameter, but it can work! My suggestion is to add a tag to all your image posts. Then, you can display all your posts with the same tag.
Does that help you gain your goal? Let me know!
Cheers!
