Latest post on index – Several posts in archives

  Hey guys,

  I’m implementing quite a complex template around WordPress, with several “static” sections to the template (Things that are hard coded, rather than created by WP through a form entry and then fetched from a database). The design revolves around the latest blog entry on the index page, and then the ten latest entries on the archive pages. I realise I can set WP so that only one entry is displayed per page, which would achieve the desired effect for the index page, but that would mean there is only one entry per page in the archives.

  Is it possible to have the one latest entry display on the index page, while having a larger number of the latest posts (Such as ten) display in the archives?

  Well, if you’re hard coding then you’re hosted elsewhere as we’re not allowed access to our theme files here.
