  Noting that in this thread https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/read-more-works-in-preview-but-not-on-actual-website/ Staff mentioned this issue is resolved. I much prefer the Latest Posts block to the Query Loop, which in this case is overkill.

  Hi Jennifer,

  The issue in the earlier thread was regarding the block showing HTML code at the end of the excerpt, and that has been fixed.

  What you’re referring to here is the intended behaviour of the Latest Posts block from what I can see – if you set that block to display post excerpts, it shows the […] at the end of the text instead of a Continue Reading link. I get this on both WordPress.com and a self-hosted site using a block theme.

  Latest posts is a Core block, so any change in this behaviour would have to come from that end.

  It does appear that if you set the block to show full posts, it doesn’t respect the More block. That’s something I’d say is a bug, and there’s already an issue open for it on WordPress.org (though it’s labelled as an enhancement request rather than a bug report…)

  As an alternative you can use the Blog Posts block. That’s specific to WordPress.com, and in that block you can toggle the Continue Reading link on/off, and you can customize its text to say something different:

  And to forestall your next comment, yes, it’s very confusing to have these two blocks doing basically the same thing, but in different ways 😅. I’m guessing it’s the result of us trying our own thing over here while Core was still figuring out how they want to do it over on WordPress.org. I’m not able to tell you at this point if our block will stick around or if it will eventually be retired in favour of the Core block, though.

  In the end I stayed with the Latest Posts block in spite of “read more” not being visible.

  In the Blog Posts block it isn’t possible to resize the Post title without it also affecting the content of the excerpt. Additionally the line spacing on a Post title is very tight.
