Latest posts not showing up on home page
-
Hi all,
My home page seems to be “stuck”. The formatting is off and it only has posts from Nov. 30th and prior. My subsequent posts still show up under other pages (i.e. Destinations) but I can’t figure out how to fix my home page. I am using the Bueno theme. Any thoughts on how I can correct this problem? Many thanks in advance!Nikki

This site, http://internationaltraveldiva.wordpress.com/ , has only three posts showing and there is no page called “destinations” and it is using twenty eleven theme.
We can’t help without a link to the site you are talking about.

I’m sorry, I cannot view your site. I’ve set here for over 4 minutes waiting for it to finish loading and there is just way too much stuff on your main page and it has literally put my wireless internet service into a terminal coma.
Go to settings > reading and set your site to at least temporarily show only one post per page.
Just FYI, having such a huge main page is going to send visitors elsewhere. People have a very short attention span and they simply won’t wait very long before clicking away and going somewhere else.
FYI #2: Search engines use page size and page loading times when calculating search engine ranking and your site will most likely get a tossed to the bottom.
After you set your site to show just one post per page, post back here and I will take a look at it.

Actually from the little bit that did load, it appears like you have all your posts set as “sticky” posts. That is what is causing the issue. You need to “unstick” all of them and you can do that using the bulk edit feature in the dashboard under posts > all posts.

Thank you so much for your help! I changed the setting to show only 1 post on the main page. I don’t set my posts as “sticky” so I didn’t need to unstick anything (I did verify to make sure I didn’t accidentally post any as “sticky”).
Great tips! I didn’t realize the large amount of data would slow down access to my page.

You have a problem in one of your posts that could be causing this.
Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”
Now open up “Nikki’s Nest: Cancun Palace Resort (Cancun, Mexico)” in the editor, make one minor change such as adding and then deleting a space, and then click “update post.”
I think the above will fix the issue for you and that change at settings > writing will help keep it from happening in the future.

One other suggestion. On long posts that have a lot of images such as “Walk Like an Egyptian…” I suggest using pagination to break the post up into manageable chunks that will load reasonably quickly for your visitors.

This is awesome! Thank you so much. I took your advice and made the changes (including the use of pagination). Makes a HUGE difference! Thanks for educating me!!!
