Latest upgrade is a de-grade, how can I work round it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Your latest update seems to have junked the invaluable Classic Editor and the WP Admin view which are vital to tweaking the restrictive default settings in a post. Today I uploaded two new pix to an existing post and find that I can neither choose their finished size, as in the past; nor will they open at their full size in a new window once published; nor is there a facility to replace an image’s URL with a custom URL in order to lead the reader elsewhere. Nor do you now offer an option for “nofollow”. How can I work round your new rules to achieve past effects?

Why anybody at WP thinks this “upgrade” is an advance or an improvement beats me.

    Hi there,

That must be annoying for you; you can always switch back to your favourite classic editor by clicking on the option ‘Switch to Classic Editor’ which is available under the ‘Show more tools & options’ at the right top corner of the page when you open a new post/page.

    Hope this helps!! :)

Thanks, smitsahatiya. That’s a great help. It did mean reloading the two new pix in order for them to be viewed at a larger size. And strangely, from the moment of login I was in the Classic environment as Admin this time, without having to choose that. May the Classic way prevail!

Hm. Though NOT on my other blog shared by this login – zisforzeitgeist.wordpress.com.

This is only presented in non-classic format and there is no option anywhere in the tool bars to revert to Classic. Any suggestions please?

  • Hi there,

Your latest update seems to have junked the invaluable Classic Editor and the WP Admin view

The block editor has been the default on WordPress.com since late 2018. There has been no recent updates that changes this, or that removes the classic editor.

We have not made any change at all to the availability of WP-Admin, and you can reach it by appending /wp-admin to the end of your site’s URL for any site in your account.

Both sites in your account are set to use the classic editor, and if I try to create a new post on either of them, that’s the editor I see.

What exactly are you doing that leads you to the block editor? Can you give me the steps of where you’re clicking?

Also please take a screen shot of the editor you see, and upload it to the media library at My Sites ->Site ->Media so I can take a look.

Spookily, I have just logged into Zisforzeitgeist and there it is entirely in its old Classic format complete with Admin page. So your magic wand seems to have resolved the problem, kokkieh. Thanks.

(Might well have been a Safari problem which throws wobblies all over the place these days.)
