    http://www.acatinthekitchen.com/?p=410

    and was wondering if this is something to worry about – how do I know if my version needs updating?

    thanks!

    @Sally,

    We don’t have to worry about updating. WordPress.com takes care of all that for us. We could not update if we wanted to!

    People who have self-hosted blogs, which use WordPress.org software, have to worry about keeping their software up to date. WordPress.com seems to experiment with new things before they use them on the .com software.

    @ leetgamer
    Thanks. I knew the difference (or I thought I knew… :-) , but I guess what confused me was that her blog’s name ends as …… com

    So, I guess all wordpress blogs that are not self-hosted have “wordpress.com” at the end of the name…. correct?

    Well.. not exactly. People can buy a domain and rename the blog address. For example, my blog used to be http://leetgamer.wordpress.com/ but I bought a domain and renamed it to http://leetgamerblog.com/; but it’s still hosted at wordpress.com, not .org. So yeah, appearances can be deceiving :P

    Sorry!!! WordPress.COM users don’t have access to update their software. But:

    Type alert in my post above.The second paragraph should be:

    People who have self-hosted blogs, which use WordPress.org software, have to worry about keeping their software up to date. WordPress.com seems to experiment with new things
    before they use them on the
    .ORG software.

    They experiment with us (.COM), then they can be sure their improvements will work for them (.ORG). We get the new stuff first.

    That is a self hosted blog using wordpress.ORG software. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see, “A cat in the kitchen is proudly powered by WordPress”
    She is using wp.ORG software.

    You can also tell if you are logged in to your wp.COM account. If you see your grey administration bar (with your avatar, “my account,” “my dashboards,” and so on” then the site you are one is a wordpress.COM site.

    @Sally,
    At the bottom of your blog it says:
    “BLOG AT WORDPRESS.COM. THEME: CUTLINE BY CHRIS PEARSON.”
    on mine, it says:
    “Blog at WordPress.com. • Theme: Unsleepable by Ben Gray “
    on leetgamer’s blog it says at the bottom:
    “Blog at WordPress.com • Freshy theme by Jide.”

    Here is what leetgaer has:

    I think I’m a little dizzy…

    :-)

    I don’t know who decided to call those two things such similar names, creating a ton of confusion – wouldn’t it be better to call one WordPress and the other Wordprint ? :-)

    Cause wordpress is a company and naming one branch wordpress and the other wordprint would make it appear as two companies
