Latest version of WordPress?

How can I make sure I’m using the latest version? I can’t seem to find what version I’m using in my admin panel. I was told to look at the very bottom of the dashboard page but it’s not there and it’s also not in my ‘At a Glance’ box either. I have the free version, does that make a difference?

Since your site is hosted by WordPress.com you will always have the most up to date version of WordPress installed. Staff here do all version upgrades for the users 1 month before they are released for WordPress.org users to have access to upgrade to.

That is not true, as it would be quite impossible to upgrade software a month before the new version of the software is even available. Code freezes on WordPress.org versions don’t happen a month before release.
We are sometimes able to deploy the new versions on WordPress.com a few days before general release, but not always, and certainly not weeks in advance.
Please don’t make statements like that unless you can point to a page in our official documentation or a recent staff reply to back you up.

Hi there, Just to add that WordPress.com is always running the latest version of WordPress and then some. Our devs update our platform many times a day (continuous rollout), so you needn’t worry about that.
However, the theme you are using on your website at threadsofanxiety.wordpress.com, Balloons, is quite old and in fact retired. You can continue to use it as long as you wish, but you will eventually find that one of those updates breaks something on your site or your site can’t use WordPress.com latest features. I’d like to encourage you to consider switching to a newer theme. You can find all the current free and Premium themes in our theme showcase https://wordpress.com/themes/
