Latex background transparency

  I use the embedded latex commands in most of my posts. I just changed the background color of my site, and realized that every formula was set in a white rectangle. I’ve since changed the background color, but I would much prefer to be able to set the background color to transparent, so the change would be automatic. Looking at the source code, for my pages, it looks like the PNG’s that represent my formulas are generated by https://s0.wp.com/latex.php?. Further research has revealed that this script can take ‘transparent’ as a background color. Is there any way the $latex syntax could be changed to include this transparent option?
