Latex formula for Tangent

  I am trying to display the mathematical formula for tangent using Latex.

  Tan X = O/A

  I have tried [latex]$latex tan X = frac{O}{A}$[/latex]

  but when I preview the post, I get an image place holder error.

  I do not get the red error message highlighted in Yellow.

  It’s my first time using Latex so I may have done something daft but I cannot work out what.

  There is a backslash before the frac.

  Not sure why it didn’t come out on the paste.
  [latex]$latex tan A = frac{O}{A}$[/latex]

  I misread the docs.

  No squared brackets needed.

  The code should just have been:-

  $latex tan X = frac{O}{A}$

  Try it without the [latex] brackets. For example, does it work if you enter just the following?
  $latex tan A = frac{O}{A}$
