latex path not specified errors
-
I can also verify that Prof. Tao’s blog does not render on any of my machines either.
I have tested his blog on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 on IE, Chrome and Firefox.
As of yesterday previous blog posts rendered on my own blog, but now they have decided to render apparently at random.
Say, the code $latex mathbb{R}^n &s=1$ will render on one post but not on another.
-
This seems to me like it might be a load balancing issue, with at least one machine in a load balanced pool not configured properly.

I have a similar problem on my (wordpress.com hosted) math blog, which seems to appear just about the same time as the editor upgrade. Only, there are some quirky aspects to it: The “latex path not specified.” error only occurs in new or updated posts… the old posts seem to be displaying fine at the moment. Also, i discovered through some experimentation that the $latex 0$, $latex 1$, etc. displays correct up until the number 8, at which point the error message displays again.
I run Debian 8 with Iceweasel 38.3.0. I tried a clean profile (no plugins) but that didn’t seem to make a difference.

Timethief, try to look at my blog on an iPhone. The equations were rendering the other day! And I’m on WordPress.com – I’m looking at blog platforms and I’m considering upgrading…
Anything you can do?

I have the same problems on my wordpress.com site as well (and when viewing other wordpress sites). Moreover, as erdosninth pointed out, the errors don’t seem to appear consistently. Some equations are rendered correctly, and some are not (in the same post).

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your updates! We have a current bug report active with the Jetpack team here:
https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/3052
It’s possible that this is already fixed in the next update, but we do not have a timeline for when that will be released.
For those of you on WordPress.com, we do use Jetpack. So this bug being fixed will affect both WP.com and Jetpack users.

Hopefully this won’t overload their servers, but since it might be a while: I discovered it is pretty easy to copy and paste in image links from CodeCogs LaTeX renderer: http://www.codecogs.com/latex/eqneditor.php. It is just slightly more trouble because you have to paste them into the HTML side of the editor.

Mine is still all messed up. The old LaTeX code, all newer code… everything! :(
-
shawnajroberts, I do not use jetpack. I have it disabled. LaTeX worked up until the 18th. I do not know why it stopped.
Should I reinstall Jetpack? I didn’t have it activated when it was installed. Please advise! My students are really stressed, and keep asking me for updates!

Oh…gosh, mine still messed up to :(
@ shawnajroberts
I do not use jetpack, my blog on wordpress.com but i can’t use laTex -
Looks like some version of this bug also happened in 2010: http://lingpipe-blog.com/2010/07/14/latex-problems-not-ou-fault/

Still experiencing the “latex path not specified error”…
Since this thread has the attention of WordPress Staff, would just like to suggest one small option for LaTeX: to make it possible to type LaTeX with just the $…$, instead of $latex …$. (Blogger has this option)
It will be much more convenient for typing long chunks of LaTeX.

Just to reiterate, we have not deployed a fix for this yet, but we do have a LaTeX-related fix in an upcoming version of Jetpack that may also fix this issue. That version of Jetpack is not released yet, so you will not have seen a fix.
@mirdonamy – If you do not use Jetpack, then unfortunately your issue is unrelated and I won’t be able to help. I suggest reaching out to the author of whatever plugin you use for your LaTeX.
@tetetopabizz – We use Jetpack here on WordPress.com, so while you do not specifically have to do anything to enable it, fixing the issue in Jetpack will fix the issue on WordPress.com.
@mathtuition88 – In order to keep this thread on topic, please post feature suggestions over in our Ideas forum:

@mirdonamy- Before WP deploys a fix, there is a way to display latex equation “normally”. Enter your web address in the following web proxy:
It works for me. Hope it works for you.

Hello all! Our Systems team just corrected an issue with our LaTeX environment. Can you all please clear your caches and refresh the pages with the error messages?
If anyone is still having trouble seeing their LaTeX rendered, please let me know and we can dig further!

Looks like it’s working correctly both on my self-hosted WordPress (http://www.malcolmgin.com/geekblog/) and my WordPress.com blog (https://malcolmginblog.wordpress.com/2015/11/20/testing-latex/).
@shanajroberts, in the future, what would be the best way to report this kind of issue? As you know, it took a long while for other Members and for staff to come have a look and really handle it properly.
