Laughing Squid Request to update to WordPress 4.1

  I apologize in advance for my lack of IT vernacular….Laughing Squid emailed me stating I must update my domain(?) “eigoiq.com” which is in WordPress 3.5.1 format(?) to WordPress 4.1. The links provided which were to be automatic were not. Can you assist please? Thank you for your assistance, Kolua

  Hi Kolua,

  It looks like you actually have your domain eigoiq.com set to forward to your domain kseiko.com. You don’t have a WordPress site set up at eigoiq.com at all.

  If you are concerned with your kseiko.com site, we keep WordPress.com updated to the latest version of WordPress at all times. It is in fact technically beyond WordPress 4.1, which is the latest release available for WordPress.org sites.

  Thank you for the explanation and you are correct ‘eigoiq.com’ is forwarded to ‘kseiko.com’. Laughing Squid is ‘hosting’ the domain eigoiq.com (forwarding it to kseiko.com) and made the request to update eigoiq.com to the latest WordPress. It is this domain that apparently is out of date (WordPress wise) and I am not sure how to update this forwarded domain. Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you, Kolua

  I should have explained before that there is a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. WordPress.com sites are hosted by us and do not get updated individually. All WordPress.com sites are kept up-to-date on a daily basis by our engineers. WordPress.org sites is hosted by individuals who want more freedom to do what they want, however they are responsible for keeping their site up to date themselves. You can read more about the differences right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  In this case, we technically only host your domain kseiko.com. That is the domain which you have told us officially is being hosted with us, which you did by purchasing domain mapping. The domain eigoiq.com appears to also be unofficially pointing to us as well via some sort of domain redirect to kseiko.com.

  There is no need or even way to update the version of WordPress for eigoiq.com, because there is nothing installed on it currently. It is only pointing at a version which is always kept up to date.

  If you have hosting with Laughing Squid and previously had installed a version of WordPress, they may be asking you to update that installation of WordPress, however we would have no way of knowing that. You would need to reach out to their help desk for additional information.
