Launching a wordpress website with a domain purchased in Fasthosts

    Hi,
We’re having an issue with launching a WordPress website (happy to upgrade to Premium) with a domain we’ve already purchased in Fasthosts. There seems to be no user-friendly way to do this within the account, and there are a number of automatically generated domains within our account that we simply don’t need (including eg ‘…dotcodotuk.wordpress’ etc).

We also have a previously purchased WP template to use. I’m now not sure that having a WordPress account is the easiest option. Please can you help?

    Thank you,
    Menna’s Cleaning

Interested in this post: I have potentially a similar issue trying to point an existing fasthosts-registered DNS to a wordpress.com site; FastHosts support are insisting it is a ‘web forwarding’ that I need, but that would simply point any current-DNS traffic to my wordpress.com URL, where what I am trying to achieve is the opposite. I have completed the wordpress side of the domain-mapping: does anyone have any ideas as to what needs doing on the fasthosts side (=I am guessing some advanced-DNS settings to do with name-servers ?)

if you have an existing domain name – you want domain mapping and you change the name servers to point to WordPress.COM – domain mapping is available as a stand alone upgrade $13.-/yr

Forward and mask that seems to be what someone has advised is not good – it has some issues and we don’t provide support for forward & mask

Lest it be useful: I have now sorted my issue RE Fasthosts, by simply entering the 3 addresses: NS1.wordpress.com, NS1.wordpress.com, NS1.wordpress.com into the ‘name servers’ section of the appropriate FastHosts DNS admin: this is exactly what WordPress Support recommended (-albeit by suggesting that I should email Fasthosts Support with those details), but the changes have to be made by the DNS owner themselves, signed on in their Administrator Portal – something that Fasthosts didn’t suggest when I ‘phoned them. So it is easy to do, if you can sign on to your Fasthosts portal. Hope that helps somebody.
