Launching new site. Could someone help me with domain mapping?

  I am launching a new site and I need some help figuring out if I need to change the IP address prefix for all my media files from 172…/image.jpg to /image.jpg? I’m concerned that when I upload my website to my new domain name, I will lose links to the media files.

  Hey Ratanji,

  Can you please clarify, are you trying to map a domain name (e.g. myname.com) to an existing WordPress.com blog, let’s say, themaharanidiaries.wordpress.com?

  If so, you don’t need to worry about changing links, the system will automatically handle it for you.

  You just have to follow the domain mapping guide, which involves changing name servers of your domain name.

  On the other hand, if you’re going to self-host, i.e., uploading WordPress software to a web hosting company, I’m afraid that will be out of scope for this forum, as we only deal with blogs hosted at WordPress.com.
