Lay-ut of editor changed

    Hello,

I wanted to post something yesterday and noticed the lay-out of the editor had completely changed. Is there a way to revert back to how it used to be? This one is really impractical when you are using a braille display.

  • Hi Vincent,

The WordPress.com classic editor in My Sites no longer exists. We’ve been maintaining that editor for the past two years since the block editor became the default in the open source WordPress software, to give people time to make the transition to the new editor. But it’s no longer possible for us to continue maintaining our own separate version of the editor, so that version has been completely removed from WordPress.com.

For now you can still access the original classic editor in WP-Admin, at https://vfrvws.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php, but that will also go away eventually, at which point the block editor will be the only available editor.

Can you let us know a bit more about what isn’t working for you using a braille display? Can you also give us more details on exactly what kind of setup, including what assistive software, you’re using?

Improving accessibility of the editor is a major focus of the team who builds it over on WordPress.org, and we’ll be happy to relay any issues you point out to them.

    Thank you for your reply!

Well, I used to be able to add categories and tags very easily because both panels were quite close to the space I had to type my post text in. Now, I seem to have to do a lot of roundabout actions to get at the category panel.

You find the categories and tags under Document as it has always been.
