You need to edit the HTML of a post and insert a table, though it seems like this isn’t considered a ‘best practice’ by many web designers. Have you tried editing the photo in a program like Photoshop or Picasa? Both those have features where you can add text, crop, res-ize, add effects and then upload the finished picture to your site. Does that help?

@mikedariano, just to note, WordPress.com does not offer the option to edit theme template HTML. If you’d like to learn more about WordPress.com and the Custom Design upgrade, please check out these links:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/That’s a broad question. Typically, I would do something like that by thinking of it more as setting a background image underneath the text. The “background” property might be just what you need in that case. This is an old tutorial, but it explains the basic gist:

Thank you for both of these very helpful answers. I really appreciate it and think they will help.

Text in an image is not “readable” by search engines. Perhaps if it is added to the description field? Not sure.
At any rate, if you are wanting to put text over a background image in a post or two, then it can be done in the text editor. I can post the code if that is what you are wishing to do.

@designsimply, thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t know what extent the html in a post was malleable.

@mikedariano, ah, to clarify… you can add HTML to posts and pages, but you cannot modify the theme HTML. I adjusted my reply above to make sure it’s clear. :)
Cheers.

The solution ended up being simple. As suggested, I edited photos in Picasa to add text. I am still a novice in CSS, so this seemed the best and easiest option. Thanks again for the helpful advice!
