Layout advice

    Hi All,

    I’m after a bit of advice. My blog (http://theonlygringoonthebus.wordpress.com) front page has three sticky “dry info” posts, followed by my usual style of blog entry.

    I’m thinking they set a rather boring tone to my blog, which is a light-hearted travel blog. Since these sticky posts will rarely change, do you think I’d be better having them as pages instead under a heading such as “Gap Year info”)? If so, is there an easy way to convert them to pages (and retain the same URL, since these posts are linked to from elsewhere)?

    Thanks very much in advance,

    The Only Gringo

    Several Sticky Posts == BAD

    I had a similar problem on one of my sites and I used some sort of Menu Widget to list the 3 sticky posts, I then put the Menu Widget at the top of the side bar and un-sticky the Posts – then the URL stayed the same, I don’t think I had any links to them, but you do.

    If you put the information on a Page then the link would break and auto redirect is not available here.

    I think you should be able to use the new menu option to list the posts across the top at the bottom of the header.

    Thanks auxclass. The menu option you mention to list these three posts underneath the header – can you point me in the right direction for finding out how to do that? I’ll also look into the menu widget, though I’m sure I’ve checked that before.

    Thanks again.

    Try here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    The above link is visible from the starting page of the Support section: http://en.support.wordpress.com/ Third pick down in the “Appearance” section on the left side of the screen.

    What I do is ‘Think of it from your readers perspective.’ You want something visually appealing, but you don’t want something too fancy that the screen is all cluttered and hard to read.

    I customized the ‘Fuzion’ theme (newer theme) that just came out, I customized it a bit and made it my own. It’s pretty easy to do with the themes that come w/ wordpress or you can do it on your own.

    Check out my blog if you want to get a good idea. I think it’s user friendly and easy to read.
