Please consult the detailed theme description here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen/ There are also many threads that explain how the Oxygen theme is designed to operate.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/oxygenIn Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
Page templates can be set under the “Page Attributes” section on the page editor screen. For more information on Page Attributes:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
If you failed to upload and set a featured image of the correct dimensions in each post then until you do upload one into each one the gray box will be there.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.
Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

Is anyone willing to provide step-by-step instructions? For example:
Step 1: Click on X.
Step 2: Look for Menu Y and select option Z. -
@jordanmhowell
Please start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else’s topic! Provide a link to your site, the theme you are using and details about what is not working for your particular blog. The information about how to make a particular theme work is there in the themes showcase:
http://wordpress.com/themes/
but it can sometimes be vague or confusing.
Volunteers can help you, but it really works best if you start your own topic. -
I need clear steps, the above info nothing is working for me.
Timethief gave you an excellent overview of the Oxygen theme. If you have a specific problem, then you need to ask about it. Give specific details about what is not working for you, and if possible include links to posts, pages or images where the problem can be seen. Describe what you expect the theme to do and what is not working for you.
Without such details we can only guess about what is wrong…

What is wrong is the theme instructions are not clear and they go in a thousand different directions at once. I don’t think @tsims13 or @jordanmhowell (who merely set you up to hit two birds–the same question–with one response) are the firsts to find the copy and pasted response confusing. Ok. Now that i’ve got that out there, i’ll go make my own post and pray that if i exhaust myself if giving you enough details, i might be able to warrant a non-copy and pasted response.

Oxygen Showcase page:
Step #1
You create a new page in Pages > Add New (enter a title but no content), select the showcase template for it from the Template pulldown, publish.
Step #2
You go to Settings > Reading and set the blog front to display this new page.
Step #3 (for the posts slider)
You edit up to six posts, turn each one of them into a sticky, and set a featured image to each one of them. The images you’ll upload from your computer need to be 750px wide or wider.Step #n (for all the other posts)
You also set a featured image to each one of them.Note: the slider section looks best with 6 posts (because of the thumbnails that show below the slider), the Recent Articles section displays the latest 3 non-sticky posts, and the More Articles section displays a further group of recent non-sticky posts, so it’s best to start with #n and forget the showcase front till you’ve published more than 10 posts.

The steps described using “showcase” template or “sticky” posts no longer apply. Here are the new steps to create a slider in Oxygen’s front page.
The instruction in the Oxygen demo or WordPress pages about using “showcase” page is totally out of date. Here is how you get the slider to work.
1. Create several posts, test ones or actual ones, doesn’t matter.
2. Assign up to 6 of these posts as ‘feature posts’. The assignment option is on lower right of your post edit screen.
3. Create a new page, call it Front, and in the page attribute area select a template called “Front Page”. Leave content blank.
4. Create a new page, call it Blog. Leave content blank.
5. In “Settings” -> Reading, assign under Static Page: Front Page = “Front”, Posts page = “Blog”.
6. Done! You should now see your “feature” posts displaying through slide loops, primary posts in the middle with a banner picture, and secondary posts at the bottom with just words.
