Leading between lines in post title in Inuit Types
-
Theme: Inuit Types
Problem: In the featured image, if there are two lines in the post title, they end up being squashed together with no line of space between them at all (no leading). That looks bad, and I suppose one could always keep the post title to only one line, but that’s impossible if the title in the original article is long.

For SEO purposes we avoid creating long titles and as this theme is displaying properly ie. exactly the way it’s coded to display I’m not clear on why you posted because we cannot help you. Also I’m not clear on why you are creating multiple Inuit Types threads. have you read my comment on your other thread here? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/want-more-posts-on-home-page-in-inuit-types?replies=2#post-472713
While we are at it have you seen my comment pertaining to Inuit Types and Bueno and featured images here? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cropping-an-image-to-meet-buenos-490×200-requirement?replies=6#post-472871
Lastly, here’s a tip. Lengthy taglines are not effective for branding purposes or for SEO. Search engines will stop at 65 – 67 characters so choosing to use as few relevant key words as will fit is the way to go.

Timethief…..
I just now am reading your reply. I apologize…I get lost with all these forum pages. I know that you do a lot of work helping us and see how if I scatter my questions all over, it helps nobody.
I just need to find a place/page in THEMES where all of the Inuit Types or the Vigilance or the 2010 or the BUENO themes are. If I can find that, then I can just add my question in that thread.
Right now I have been combing through the THEMES looking for the INUIT TYPES thread and cannot find it. I figure that the main thread dealing with the theme is the one that has a large number of posts….. and so far I cannot find it.
I found this comment from you while looking for the Inuit Types theme questions.
Sorry for inconveniencing all of you out there. I’m trying harder……

I was not aware of the above, and that is why I posted my question. I figured that there was a way to increase the leading. I did not know, and I did not know about the SEO and long titles.
If I knew what WordPress people could not answer, I would not ask it.

@lorna
Click “meber” under your username and there you will find eavery thread you have posted into on the is forum as well as the ones you created.I have actually answered your question about how to set the number of posts on the front page of Inuit Types theme twice before in two different threads. :)
Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most ___ postsChange the number of posts and then scroll down and click “Save Changes”.
You previously asked how to change the excerpt length appearing on the front page of Inuit Types and I answered that twice previously too. :)
Simply create the post and before you publish select the text you want to appear on the front page of your blog and copy it. Then paste it into the Excerpt box found below the editor box. Click Publish and it’s done.

I’d have to agree about the line height issue on inuit types. If I had designed it, I would have given a touch more breathing room between lines in the post titles.
-
@tt&lk: I think that very long threads aren’t very helpful. If all questions on one theme are posted on one thread dedicated to that theme, the thread will soon become practically useless, since you’ll have to browse through numerous pages to locate a possible previous answer. So I think that each different question on a theme-related problem should have its own thread, just posted in the Themes section.
@lk: Featured post titles do have some leading – 16px to be precise. Can you point to an example where you think it looks bad? My guess is it’s only a problem if letters like h or k fall exactly below letters such as j or y. Anyway you can only change that if you have the paid CSS upgrade.

@Panos
There are in fact multiple Inuit Types threads. I have answered Lorna’s same questions on Inuit Types (1) how to set the number of posts on the front page and (2) how to create an excerpt rather than using the one the theme supplies several times over now.Answered here > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/want-more-posts-on-home-page-in-inuit-types?replies=4#post-472713

and here too > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/leading-between-lines-in-post-title-in-inuit-types?replies=7#post-475124Sandra answered here> https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/inuit-types-number-posts-and-length-of-posts?replies=5#post-472996
P.S. No she does not have the CSS upgrade.

@tt: Same questions? This thread is about featured post titles and their line-height: question not posted elsewhere, by Lorna or anyone else. So I thought you’re recommending one thread for one theme!

Well, now I have just read this page. I understand that shorter post titles work better for SEO and will follow that hint.
My question was answered directly by Sacred Path. Question was not “Is my title too long?“ but an observation that in instances when there are two lines in a post title, the leading is very short/narrow and the two lines looked squashed together. In the cases where a title has to be long for whatever reason, then this observation would be relevant and an issue and worthy of the theme team to look at and hopefully correct.
For a while I did not even realize that all of my questions were filed in the Forum Support front page and I was running back and forth looking for my questions and their answers. Then someone did tell me of that time saving feature, and I was thankful but frequently forgot about using it. That is my fault for forgetting, I know, and apologize.

Ok, now I have gone back and re-read about what Panos said about the leading being corrected in CSS. I do not know HTML so I will just let it go and not let it bother me. :-)
The instances of the leading being (in my opinion) too squashed are in my blog which is at: http://lornakismet.wordpress.com
What I am working on now is figuring out how to really make use of the features that were built into Inuit Types. I have seen Sandra’s and Timethief’s blogs with Inuit Types and I know that I can do more with mine, like making my Widgets do more work for me. I realize that Widgets are a great feature in blogs and help out a lot for getting viewers to keep reading.
Also the menues, but from what I read on the Inuit Type theme, something about Menues is not supported there. I read it two nights ago so am already fuzzy on it. Please forgive my 66-year-old brain. It’s still a good brain but it is getting forgetful. :-)
Sincerely and with much gratefulness,

G’day to you :)
I take it that at this point in time you understand:
1. The distance between the title lines in the Inuit Types theme in featured posts can only be changed on a individual basis by getting the CSS upgrade and doing the CSS editing.2. If you wish request that the Theme Team edit the Inuit Types template which will effect all those who use the Inuit Types theme this is the link for contacting them http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
3. And you can always find every thread you have started on thes forum and every comment you have every posted into a forum thread by clicking the “member” link under your username.

Ok, I went back to my blog and found that which I had forgotten. It is in the Dashboard of Inuit Types. Regarding Themes:
THEMES
The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar.I was trying to organize my Menues to take up less space in the header area at top of page and saw the thing above.

Also the menues, but from what I read on the Inuit Type theme, something about Menus is not supported there.
4. Yes that’s what it says. It does not exist on the Inuit TYpes theme as this point in time. However, iIf we wish we can use the Custom Menu widget on any theme, including Inuit Types wherein the Custom Menus feature is not supported. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/

About HTML:
I wanted to put that info about THEMES above (those three lines) in bold or italics or blockquote or whatever to set it apart from my own words. I saw the notation below the box here about what to do (”Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li.
You can also put code in between backtick ( ` ) characters“ but since I know almost zip about HTML, that info is vague to me.For those of us who are almost totally ignorant of HTML, it would be so so helpful if you would actually show how the thing should look/show us what we should type out, such as:
“If you want to put some text in bold type/italics/whatever, here is what you should type out so that you get that feature:”
(and then in this space you would show how it would look before the person hits the Submit button and before the instructions disappear and become the targeted effect).
After a while, we HTML beginners would catch on and later we might understand the more shorthand instructions for those who are already familiar with HTML.

Ohmigod 8-(
I have gone back to look for examples of squashed leading on my Inuit Types blog and now am realizing that my comments might have been for when I was using the Bueno theme. 8-( 8-( 8-(
I have been trying out the new themes and stuck with Bueno for a while before returning to Inuit Types for more or less permanency.

For bold lettering use
<strong> text here </strong>
For italics use
<em> text here </em>
To learn HTML you will find there are many free tutorials online and you can use Google Search to locate them. -
Thank you thank you Timethief ! That is easier to understand and execute because it is easier to COPY than to INTERPRETATE a foreign language.
Oh… Now I see what “em” means. I see it all over in HTML……. And I am going to assume that there should be one space between the and the first word to be italicized. Well, just to be sure I am going to experiment without a space……
Now where shall I store this info? Oh… yes…….. here in the Lornakismet Forum homepage :-) :-) :-)

Most definitely OT but I cannot tell if “INTERPRETATE” was tongue-in-cheek or not, especially after looking at your blog. I’m glad you’ve got the problems solved; the HTML “em” tag stands for emphasis, just so you know.
