Least Expensive way to Backup Database

I have a free blog site on WordPress.com (actually, 3 small sites). I inherited them from my deceased husband. I am a Linux Admin and want to host them on my home server so I can be certain I always have them. I need to download the database(s). I want to do this once and once only, the least expensive way possible. I have already installed a local, functional WordPress instance at home. I don’t mind paying but $300 seems like a little much for a one time issue. Can I pay monthly or do I have to pay the full $300 at once? I wouldn’t be writing this here but it seems there is no other way to contact them.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • @tomlarkin , would you consider using the export process instead? The sites are on WordPress Multi User (which might be a good option for your own installation), so you wouldn’t be downloading the whole database, just the site content:
    https://wordpress.com/support/export/

You’d get a WXR file for each site, for use with the WordPress importer. Run that while the sites are publicly accessible, and you’ll automatically download the media as well. Let us know if you have any questions!
