leave a comment link doesn't work – how to fix?

  • Unknown's avatar

It has been brought to my attention that people cannot comment on my posts. Sure enough, if go to one of my posts, there is a ‘leave a comment’ link at the bottom, but clicking on it does nothing. What could be the cause and how to fix?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is it the blog linked to your name, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/edstevensdba
If so, then I clicked the ‘leave a comment’ and it worked fine. If not, please give the URL beginning with http://

This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments. You may want to confirm the settings. Check “Other comment settings” and look for this:
__ Automatically close comments on articles older than days

We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page. So there are other settings to check.

absurdoldbird – yes, that’s the blog. It works at the ‘home’ page, but not for some of the posts. Take a look at http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/allocation-of-extents-in-multi-file-tablespaces/#respond.

timetheif – OK, I followed your link and found “To change the comment settings for a post or page you already published,(exactly what I want) open it for editing. In your Dashboard, go to either Pages or Posts, locate the one you want to edit, and click on its title. (done)

Then, locate the Discussion module on the edit screen” Maybe I’m losing it, but I don’t find a “Discussion module on the edit screen” In fact, Firefox can’t even find the word “Discussion” on that screen.

On the edit screen look at the top of the page and you’ll see ‘screen options’. Check the ‘discussion’ one and you should see the module appear somewhere lower down the post. All the elements on the page are modules that you can open or close. You have to check them in the screen options dropdown to make them appear at all.

Yes, I see what you mean. the ‘Leave a comment’ link doesn’t work. I’ll modlook this for staff to take a look. They might not deal with it til after the weekend, though, so be patient please.

The “Leave a Comment” link doesn’t work because your current settings are comments not allowed but pingbacks allowed. You just need to edit each post and allow comments, after you activate the Discussion module as AOB suggested.
