'Leave a comment' link has been replaced by 'number of comments'

Help!
I’m new to creating a blog.
I’ve just created my first post in the penscratch theme and below the first image on the home page there was a ‘leave a comment’ link for anyone to contribute. This has worked well. However now I notice that this link is no longer there and in its place is how many comments there are. Is it possible to bring it back alongside or in place of the number of comments? To my knowledge I haven’t changed anything. I’ve looked at the settings/discussion page and not altered anything.
I’ve looked at lots of entries on this forum about leaving comments but still it’s unresolved. I’m completely lost if anyone suggests coding to me. Please help ! -
There are two ways a post is displayed:
On the home/front page at https://christineryanblog.wordpress.com/
and the single post view at https://christineryanblog.wordpress.com/2016/01/31/new-beginnings/
The first shows the number of comments that have been made on at post; the second shows the comments themselves.
This is pretty standard for how blogs work.

But I did have a ‘leave a comment’ link below the first image? Why did I have it and why has it now disappeared? Can I get it back?

With the theme that you’ve chosen, and actually for the majority of themes in general, that “Leave a comment” text appears until someone leaves a comment, then it changes to “X comments”.
Can you get it back? I don’t believe you can, even with a Premium upgrade.
You can tag this for Staff input by adding the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar.

Hi Christine – as justjennifer says, Penscratch (and most themes) display the number of comments left on a post as soon as at least one comments has been added – it’s not a setting that can be changed.
