“Leave a Comment” link has mysteriously moved from top to bottom

I am currently hosting my blog (Oaktown Art) through WordPress using the theme Vigilance. I don’t believe I’ve changed any appearance settings, but recently the “Leave a Comment” link has moved from the top of each blog post (next to date just under title), down to the bottom of each post.

I would prefer for it to move back up to the top, but have no idea why this changed or how to fix it. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Vigilance was updated by staff a short time ago, and that is one of the things that happened in the upgrade. You can read more about the update here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/vigilance-theme-improvements?replies=37 .

I have a couple suggestions regarding your blog.

First, you need to optimize your images better before uploading them. The are way too large (file size) and it is taking forever to load your main blog page. I see many images in there that are over 400k in file size. In general, my suggestion is that you keep the file size down to under 75k each. You can do this by opening the image in an image editing program on your computer, then saving the image as a lower quality jpg. You have to have a “high” quality and “medium” quality jpg side-by-side to see the difference and in many cases it is almost impossible to see the difference on a computer monitor.

Secondly, you need to reduce the number of posts that show on the blog pages by going to settings > reading and changing the number to something lower like say 3 or 5.

Those on slower internet connections – and there are still a good number of them out there – will certainly appreciate it.

    thanks sacred path!

i do resize all my photos to 72dpi at the appropriate width (600 px) but i’ve been saving at top quality JPEG setting. I guess I need to look into the lower quality to see how that affects image quality.

so are you saying there is no way to put the “leave a comment” link back up top?

    thanks,
    d

Going to medium will make a big difference in file size, but almost no difference in image quality – at least that you can see on a computer monitor.

As far as the comment link position, no there is no way to move it back to the top. That would require modifications to the underlying theme PHP script files, and we do not have access to those since this is a multi-user blogging platform and we all share the same underlying files. Any change by one person would change it for everyone.

one more question… it sounds like the moving of the comments was done thru CSS upon reading the link you sent above (“comments area moved into – post-footer”)

i’ve already paid for the CSS upgrade. would i be able to move the comments back up to the top through modifying my CSS?

    thanks!

i’ll start doing my images medium quality per your recc. and also already changed my # of posts. thanks for your suggestions!!!

No, the location of the comment link relative to other elements – in this case the post body itself – is set in the underlying theme files.
