Leaving Comments

  Hi, I disabbled comments due to the huge amount of spam I was receiving. It was not being posted, but it was a pain to wade through every weak.

  What I want to do is allow subscribers, whom I know and trust to be able to post comments, howeverm, not everyone wants to go through the process of joining word press, they just want to leave a post.

  How can I set up users, so they be a member of my blog, and post a cooment, but not have to join wordpress ? is this possible ? like a user account.

  Yes, you can have official users of your blog. The options are these: http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
  The process is found here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
  However, if you want to restrict the ability to comment then you may wish to consider changing your blog visibility to private.

  You can enable blog subscriptions using this process.

  Now setting that aside there is no setting you can use to open comments on a public blog and allow comments only from a select group. You can set the comments to full Moderation and approve only those you want.

  Hi thanks for that but yeah, that does no really answer my question,. I do not want it to be private, I know how to set up subscriptions, and add standard users but I really would prefer my members to not be authors or anything that allows them to post on the blog.

  I just want to be able to select the people who can leave comments, without them having to join WordPress. So comments are not open to the general public, just to a select group.

  This is what I am after.

  Richard, I think the last paragraph of timethief’s last response addresses your question, perhaps not exactly the way you wish, but still, it’s the closest thing to what you are asking.

  Well it would be a nice feature to add thats for sure.
