leaving wordpress.com

    Hello

I would like to register with wordpress.org in the next few months. Is it possible to have the same site with the same domain name up and running on wordpress.com and wordpress.org? I’m not sure how long it will take me to transfer the content from wordpress.com to wordpress.org considering my lack of knowledge and time or to decide to let a professional, such as godaddy, take care of my wordpress.org site. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can have the same content running on both WordPress.com and on a self-hosted site, but not using the same domain at the same time. Domains can only point to one place at a time.

If you need to handle the transfer over a long period of time, you may want to setup a 2nd domain name, create the self-hosted site on your new hosting service (like GoDaddy, or others we recommend here) and then work on exporting the content over at your own pace.

Once the site is working correctly under your 2nd domain name, change your current domain to point to the self-hosted site and remove the 2nd domain name. Then you can set your free WordPress.com site to private as a back up.

We also have a Guided Transfer service that can help these transitions go smoothly all at once:
