Left aligned and right aligned text on the same line?

Is it possible to have left aligned and right aligned text on the same line?
I’m trying to incorporate links to the previous and next parts of an article, and I want them on the same line. I think that aligning one to the left and the other to the right will give the best appearance, but cannot see how to do so. I don’t have the CSS upgrade, and if I use < div > to split the text it forces the links onto separate lines.
If there is a better way of making this look good I would appreciate advice.
(The parts of the article are not necessarily posted sequentially, and I want to make it easy for a reader to find the next part)

You can put the cursor in between them and hit the space bar repeatedly, but you’ll have to do a lot of Previewing to get it just right.

Yes it is.
<span style=”float:left;”>Left words</span> <span style=”float:right;”>Right words</span>`
Just edit the links and the link anchor text in the above. You can see an example here: http://flippintestblog.wordpress.com/ .

Shoot, I messed up with the backticks
<span style="float:left;"><a href="http://wordpress.com/">Left words</a></span> <span style="float:right;"><a href="http://wordpress.com/">Right words</a></span> -
