Legal support

Hi,
I just discovered there’s a page on WordPress where I’m accused of being part of a group that assassinated the husband of the woman who wrote the page. I’m so shoked about this I wouldn’t know where to start from to describe my state of mind.
What do I have to do to have the link removed?

Hi @augustoro
I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this — finding something like that about yourself online is deeply distressing, and I want to make sure you get the right help as quickly as possible.
Here’s exactly what to do:
1. Report the content to WordPress.com immediately
This is your most important first step. WordPress.com takes reports of defamatory and harmful content seriously. Submit a report here:
wordpress.com/abuse
When filling out the form, select “Defamation” as the reason. In your description, be as specific as possible — include:
- The exact URL of the page making the accusation
- Your name as it appears on the page
- A clear statement that the accusation is false and defamatory
2. Document everything now
Before the page is potentially taken down or edited, take screenshots of the full page including the URL in the browser bar. This protects you legally and serves as evidence if you need to escalate further.
3. Consider legal advice
An accusation of involvement in a killing is an extremely serious defamatory claim. Depending on your country, this could constitute criminal defamation. We’d strongly recommend speaking with a lawyer — many offer free initial consultations — as they can send a formal takedown request (cease and desist) which often speeds up removal significantly.
4. What happens after you report
WordPress.com’s Trust & Safety team will review the report. If the content violates their policies — and a false accusation of this nature almost certainly does — they have the authority to remove the page or suspend the account.
Please don’t hesitate to follow up here if you need guidance on any of these steps. You’re not alone in this.
