length of blog photo/collage

    length of blog post
    I just created a new blog post with MANY photos…. I have it sized to 1000 pixels wide, but it is over 26,000 pixels in length. I am trying to upload the photo/collage so I can post it but
    when I click on add photo it is not recognizing it.

    This happened once before when the width of my blog post was 1200 pixels wide so I shrank it to 1000 pixels wide and it was uploaded successfully after that.
    So I am guessing…. my collage is too long… could that be correct?

    Hi there,

    I see the post at http://sonjarevellsphotography.wordpress.com/2013/05/21/lindsey-and-seans-huge-blog-post/ . Is this the one you are referring to?

    Is your issue that you cannot add additional photos to that gallery, or that certain images aren’t uploading properly? You should not be running into issues due to the height/length of the post.

    It looks like you have set 1500px as the content width for the theme in your Customizer, while the default content width for your theme is 500px. That setting could be causing some issues.

    Please let me know more details and I can look into it further for you.

    Hi Jackie,

    I had to shrink the length of the blog… it was 30 feet long… like 26,000 pixels… it is the longest one I have ever done so maybe that is like crazy big, I don’t know. But, wordpress would not recognize or accept the file when I tried to upload it… so I shrank it and now it uploaded.

    But I had an issue last week when I was trying to upload one that was much shorter but 1200 pixels wide… wordpress did the same thing, which was nothing… when I tried to upload the image so I shrank it to 1000 pixels wide and then it let me upload it.

    I already feel my images are showing up too small on my blog, the width of them is too small, but I don’t know what to do.
    I’m “trying” to find someone, hire someone to help me with this so I can actually spend my time running my business… but so far everyone just wants to build me a new blog and/or website. Ugh.

    Hi again,

    It sounds like you are having issues uploading a very large image file.

    Did you know our Gallery feature creates the same kind of tiled image using individual images? See http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#examples-of-gallery-styles for more information.

    If you do need to upload the collages directly, I’m happy to look into this for you. For the larger files you’re having trouble uploading to WordPress.com, can you upload one to another service (Flickr, Dropbox or something similar) so I can download the file and test it?

    As for the width of the image display, the theme you are using has a relatively narrow content area. You might look at some of our other themes for one that allows a wider display of content: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#examples-of-gallery-styles

    We even have some themes specifically for photographers, so you might want to give one of those a try.

    And don’t worry, you don’t need to hire someone to help you figure this stuff out. That’s what we’re here for. :)
