Let WordPress know you don't like the new editor

  • Unknown's avatar

Or let them know that you’d do. You’d be the first. Here is a poll (not created by me) designed to let WordPress know that, as much as we love WordPress, we don’t like the new editor: http://www.poll-maker.com/poll277402x1D5c4173-10

My IDEA is that you answer and share your thoughts. :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There’s already a thread where Staff are monitoring comments we post and several bloggers have created their own polls and posted links to them there https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format?replies=780

I diverted my attention from protesting and I have contingency plan in place. I hired a web host and set up a WordPress.ORG install, which is set to private, so I can move my domains and content if needs be. Perhaps you may want to look into doing the same.

That said, I do have full confidence that once this bumpy roller coaster ride is done and the final iteration has been debugged, WordPress.COM staff will have created a rockin editor that will rival the classic editor.

I think that as long as the wordpress devs throw out “improvements” that THEY deem suitable rather than going to the people that use the platform and developing actual improvements that way that nothing will ever be done.

One of the people that monitored one of those threads basically told me that the WordPress way was to basically throw out these changes and then make even more improvements to the improvements rather than just admitting that it was crap and taking it down.

I got bored banging my head against the wall of no reason in the end.

At least it’s kind of interesting to watch WordPress slowly self-destruct. When I first started blogging here, I thought WordPress was awesome. Apparently they didn’t like people having this perception of them so they’ve become the EA of the blogging industry.

To any staff who might be monitoring this: What exactly do you think the new editor does better, other than give users an opportunity to improve their anger management skills?

Yep … this seems to be standard dev practice. It’s called ” groping around in the dark” …

The prime example is the horrible new stats page … which was issued as an endless scroll .. a single column stretched out to the bottom of the computer screen and … apparently running across my knees and onto the floor and halfway to the door. I never saw anything quite so badly formulated. Obviously it wasn’t going to work. Complaints soared.

So after some time, the double column was restored. Then a ridiculously large map was brought down to size. Then the stats columns finally were restored to include visitors AND views. As of now, we await “total” views and the capacity to view the previous day’s stats as well as a drop down menu of our other blogs. We’re hoping these changes will be incorporated.

But if you look at the stats page today … it’s be restored to a mini-version of the original … tweaked to keep user anger at bay … but not simply junked … which they should have done. It’s horrible. Cramped and visually unappealing.

I think we can expect the same sort of face -saving “tweaks” to the new editor. Instead of the bold ..” we goofed”.

It takes years of life experience to realize that ” I goofed” can win enormous respect … only the very young and inexperienced see it as a “loss of face”.

I am a solution orientated person and I don’t think there’s any chance of going back when it comes to these user interface changes. I think there will be more iterations and I do not want to be a guinea pigs for BETA testing of the new user interface. I’m glad we have the ability to navigate to the classic WordPress.COM interface and use the classic editor and classic stats pages.

The way we end users have been treated sucks! It’s past time for Automattic to hire a User Interface specialist to head the team and I believe they will do that very soon.

  • Unknown's avatar

I too dislike the new editor. Unfortunately, WP will most likely ignore complaints by their users saying that those who complained don’t like change and that the majority of users like the new editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t mind being part of a “testing” program is we are honestly informed of it. And one of the best ways to gauge the success of something is to take a poll … Openly and placed in a prominent place on the site.

For the stats page, there is indeed a poll … but WHERE is it ? …. You only find it IF you go to the New Stats and scroll all the way to the bottom, where you’ll be proved the link back to the classic. Then IF you click back THEN sometimes ( not all the time) you will be asked why you prefer the classic. We don’t even have that link back now in the Editor.

So how the heck can WP insist that people favor it????????

Come on WordPress ….. Bite the bullet and post a poll at the TOP of the New Edit page. WIth the option to choose the classic. Dont just give us three questions about the New Editor with no reference to the Classic and then announce the overwhelming popularity of the new one. Stop being so shifty. Play the hand straight.

  • Unknown's avatar

All I can say is, I’ve just set up a blog for someone else, and they will always get links to the classic editor and classic stats. The new editor has no connection to other admin pages, is almost unreadable, takes several seconds to load, etc. etc. The new “Posts” page is set up so each post takes up 1/3 of the window. Nonsense.

    And other complaints.

There comes a time to just keep the admin links you can use and say hell with it and move on.

My preferred stats page (although I like features of the other): YOUR_WP_BLOG_URL/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
My preferred NEW POST page (although I can use the new one but rarely do):
    YOUR_WP_BLOG_URL/wp-admin/post-new.php

Use all of the links on the left side of those pages and you’ll stay in the “Classic” environment.

Most of the regular posters here already have our own work-arounds and many different ways to access the Classic have been offered in dozens of threads. I personally have my five blogs wired the way I want them and that doesn’t include the New Stats page … which is horrible. Nor the New Editor … which Ive never used after the first try.

But in deference to many peole who aren’t even aware of these forums … which also are not posted in prominent places on Word Press pages … they will never know what happened. They wake up to the Boop Beep Bloop nonsense, and wonder what suddenly bombed their blog. It’s for these users that I take the time to protest and complain. Actually I’d rather be eating another block of chocolate and practicing some Mozart. :) Or sleeping … since it’s after midnight here in Hawaii …

I made my protest clear by going to another provider, Inventati. Free, no ads, secure, great platform, no glitches, no headaches.

So I’ve been a blogger at WordPress.com for 8 years now. I took a year or two hiatus on my last blog–life stuff-and am now back on to create a new blog. This UI change is terrible. I remember the old (classic) UI being incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. Instead, I just spent about an hour trying to figure out how to make a drop-down menu. Which is ridiculous.

I’m a relatively tech savvy person, and regularly teach myself new software. I just started using Squarespace for work a couple of months back and was easily able to figure it out without reading any tutorials. That is what I had come to expect from WordPress.com, but no longer.

I’m glad that we can still access the Classic UI through WP Admin (which I only figured out by seeking out information from these forums). But I fear that this is a temporary service, and eventually will be phased out. If that happens, I am done with wordpress.com. I will have to move to another platform.

Please take into account your long-time users’ needs. I’ve seen the same staff member reply to these threads and invalidate the experiences of long-time users and generally act completely out-of-touch with reality. Tell me that’s not how WordPress.com does customer support.

  • Unknown's avatar

Please, please, undo this hopeless change. The old editor was far better. I absolutely hate this new infantile ‘beep beep boop’ baloney. How could you do this to the perfect blog software, the best there was!

    @herrijzendnederland
Over a month ago Staff removed the classic editor link in the new editor and they notified us then that it would not be restored. There are other features that are not available in the new editor either. Please see here for clarification https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/32?replies=943#post-2338964

You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. I don’t use it at all. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

I, too, do not like the new editor. It’s much easier to get to your tags and your categories via the old editor. Also, the shortlink for each blog post has disappeared, and you have to return to the admin site to get it. Also, the previous thread on this topic is closed. The new editor is not at all friendly.

  • Unknown's avatar

The bottom line here is clear and has been clear since March 18th. The link will not be restored.

The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/when-editing-an-old-post-how-do-i-switch-to-the-classic-editor?replies=5

If one believed that nothing ever changes .. that decisions once made are fixed in stone … well woman wouldn’t have the vote and people fighting for any cause might as well fold up and go home.

I don’t believe that. If enough people make the opinions clear again and again … it’s like water lapping against a stone … eventually that stone wears down.

I am furious because yesterday I tried to edit directly from my SIte menu and was confrontated with that ridiculous “boop beep” stuff … I realized I wasn’t going to conect directly. Of course I know the “work-around. I already know that I have to go back and start from my “add page” button.

But the piece I was hoping to edit was five years old!!!!!!! And it took me many frustrating minutes to scroll down through ALL my articles to locate it. Frustrating and unnecessary.

At a bare minimum LEAVE THE OPTION to edit an old post in the familiar classic intact. This is ridiculous!

Not everyone is satisfied with the status quo. Many would like to have the option for the classic editor .. and the classic stats. Unless we speak out, that stone remains immobile.
