Lettering being mixed up
-
The problem that I have is when I write words with the letter F in them for some reason the words get mixed up.
I was only made aware of the issue when my friend mentioned it as the error does not appear on my laptop. An example is in words like life get changed to lfie. Myself is changed to Mysefl etc
My friend uses the same laptop and browser as me so I’m not sure why it would appear differently for us.
If anyone knows how to resolve this issue that would be great as I don’t really want to find alternatives to using words with F in itThanks

Hi Oliver,
Do you come across this issue when typing anywhere on your laptop or only when posting to your site at oliverwebbsproductdesign.wordpress.com? If it’s the latter, are you able to replicate across different browsers or is the issue only apparent when typing in one browser?
If you can let me know those extra details, then we can troubleshoot further from there.

Hi siobhyb,
Thank you for your quick reply.
The issue only occurs when other people are looking at it.
When I write the blog post the issue isn’t their, nor when I go back into the edit window or when I look at the post in safari or chrome or from my phone.
The issue isn’t anywhere else on the laptop.
Its just an odd issue because it doesn’t appear when I look at it but only for others -
Hm, that does sound odd!
You can see a screenshot of what I’m seeing on the home page of oliverwebbsproductdesign.wordpress.com here:
As you can see, words with f in them (Cardiff and myself) are displaying correctly for me. I tested in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox but was not able to replicate the issue on my end.
As I’ve not been able to replicate, it’d be useful to hear how many reports of the issue you’ve had. Is there a common browser or device that people reporting this to you are using?
-
It’d also be good to know if the people reporting this to you are seeing the issue on the home page of your site or any other specific page.
Thanks!

The issue is occurring on all the pages for them.
Yeah that screen shot is the same as what I see but I use the same computer (Macbook pro) and safari as what my friends use.
Very confusing especially as you can see it fine

@siobhyb This issue has been reported a few times before with no solution that I’m aware of. The users saw the problem only on ipads or iphones. I’m not sure if the issue is theme specific. See here:-

Thank you so much for bringing that thread to my attention, @themagicrobot.
I was able to replicate after updating to macOS Sierra and viewing the sites mentioned in both threads in Safari.
@olivergeorgewebb: If you haven’t yet updated to macOS Sierra, this may explain why you’re not able to see the mixed up lettering on your end.
The issue itself appears to be caused by the Rebalance theme’s default font, Rubik. I was able to replicate by viewing the font’s page here:
https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Rubik
I’ll get this reported back to the team and we’ll see what we can do. As a temporary workaround, you could consider selecting a different font via the Fonts panel of the WordPress.com Customizer. I’ll update this thread when I hear back from the team.

After a little more digging, I found that this issue has been brought up on Google’s GitHub repository here:
https://github.com/google/fonts/issues/401
I’ll follow along with that thread and post back here with any updates.

Good news! The issue with the font mixing up lettering has now been resolved. :)
